One of Penn State’s top defensive backs over the last five seasons is off the board.

Cornerback Kalen King was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the No. 255 overall pick in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

In 2023, King tallied 29 tackles to go along with 1.5 tackles for loss and two pass breakups in what many considered a disappointing junior campaign.

The Detroit, Michigan, native earned first-team preseason All-American honors from the Associated Press, Sporting News and PFF, following his breakout sophomore season

2022 saw King notch 30 tackles, three tackles for loss, 18 pass breakups, three interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

King generated hype as the top cornerback in the class until the Nittany Lions squared off against Ohio State. He was torched by Marvin Harrison Jr., who was selected fourth overall by the Arizona Cardinals.

After the contest, fans and analysts began to question if King was worth a first-round selection.

Then came the Senior Bowl where he struggled mightily and NFL Combine when he ran a 4.61 40-yard dash.

King will look to prove people wrong in the NFL with the Packers.
